First and second grade students from the Isreal Loring Elementary School painted self-portraits using tempera paint. We looked at self-portraits done by famous artists for inspiration. Notice the patterns bordering these self-portraits, making a frame.
Children from the three/four year old class at the Sudbury Cooperative Preschool demonstrate their understanding of Eric Carle's literature through a creative language arts activity. Characters from Eric Carle's classics "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and "The Grouchy Ladybug" were recreated.
Listening to several books by the same author is just one of the many ways young children develop literacy skills. For more information on the Sudbury Cooperative Preschool, please visit www.sudburycoop.org.
Grade four students at the Peter Noyes Elementary School created these wonderful tempera paintings inspired by silk flower arrangements in the art room. They began by sketching a unique composition with oil pastels. Next, the students used tempera paint and a variety of painting techniques such as spatter, sponge and sgraffito, to color the image. Once the paint had dried, the students had the option of using various drawing media such as markers, oil pastels and crayons, to complete the artwork.
